Be still my heart, it will be offthe needles soon

I am currently  knitting a shrug, pattern Retro Ribby Twinset in Knitting Lingerie Style knit in a bunch of colors of Elsebeth Lavold Bamboucle.

a bikini knit from Elsebeth Lavold, Hempathy in colors Dark coral and Sage. This picture doesnt do the colors justice and I am not a photographer so you"ll just have to believe me. The pattern is the Blue Suede Bikini in Sexy Little Knits. I really want to wear this in the water so I am making it out of something I believe will be good in the water.
and two sweaters.
The pink one is for my friend Andera. It is knit out of Berreco Bonsic with the pattern Cropped Caridan with leaf ties in Fitted Knits. However mine will not have leaf ties. Instead I will extend the cropped part to make wide ties. It will be amazing and she will love it.

The gray sweater is from Fitted Knits as well. It is the Textured tunic in Bamboo Ewe by Stich Nation in color Mercury. I realized that this yarn might be a tad light for this sweater but I dont care. I love how soft it is and I know that it will be warm for fall.

I love sweaters. Can you tell?

Change of Heart

Call me wishy washy. But I have realized that I like to knit, alot. I do more knitting than business doing anyway right now. I should be putting things up on Etsy.

I just put a million (slight exaggeration) things on Ravelry. It was really exhilarating. I put every skein on there that I still have the label to. I also put all my projects up. I'm pretty proud.

It other news I bought a memory card today. So all I need now is my own camera. After my sister gives me her laptop that is.

In other news I got MY old laptop working again, just before my sister graced me wth the good news. Of course my charger desnt really work with my laptop unless I want to spend an hour trying to find the exact place the charger and the computer have to be in order for that annoying little purple light to pop on to indicate charging. And then hold it there. However my mother's charger works better. I only have to search for 5-10 mins for the right spot then keep it there.
Alothough now I dont even have my charger anymore. It was plugged in and I started smelling smoke and i looked and there was a burning smell coming from the charging outlet on the computer. I unplugged it from the laptop and examined it. There were sparks. Combination of being a firefighter's daughter and common sense told me to unplug it from the wall. So now I have to steal my mother's charger on a daily basis. Which is fine but I really hope I get that laptop soon.

I have been knitting a lot recently. I have also been going on daily walks. And marbling paper. And reading about knitting. And working on my lesson plan for my kids class. But yesterday I was at IHOP with my friends and I realized I had to stop knitting for at least one day if not more.

I really want to be able to  knit when I'm 80. If a few days break now and then means my hands will grant me more knitting time then I say let it be.

Yep. I've also decided that I might want to be a Waldorf teacher. It's an alternitive school that teaches more than reading writing arithimtic... and knitting is part of the cirriculum. I was just saying how I believe each child should be taught to knit, among other things.

Happy Birthday

It's my birthday today. My sister is giving me her old laptop to use for my business. I am exicted. That is one less expense that I have to fork out of my profit.

Also in other news. My friend and I were talking and I think I;ve decided that I'm going to open a business. Her dream is a coffee/ bakery shop. My dream is a knit shop. We are going to combine the two. It will be fantastic.

All we need is captial and business know how. In my experience the people who are most passionate about what they do succeed the most.

So wish us luck and any advice would be greatly appriecitated.

Well then. I guess I'll just be counter-productive

So its been a couple days since I posted anything. It's also been kinda crazy 'round here. I worked twice as many hours as I usually work at my job this week. And my friend got married on Satuday. Then my family and I went to see family out of town for an overnight trip.  We got back just in time for me to change and go to work.

Sadly, it was only a two hour car drive and I was wedged in between my football player brother (6' 3" and over 200 lbs) and my sister (who's 18 and the world revolves around her, or so she'd like to think).

Why is that sad? Well I brought the pair of mittens I was finishing. All that's left is the cuffs and I said to myself, "Self, its 4 hours, you can finish these cuffs" Well think I knit a total of maybe 10 rows. give or take. When you're knitting on the couch by yourself you take for granted all that elbow room.

And I haven't even uploaded anything new onto etsy. I lost my camera.

Although to be fair, its not my camera. Its my mothers and I didnt lose it because she had it and I just couldnt find it. Seriously, the first piece of business equipment I am purchasing is a camera. Followed by a memory card or two and a laptop. But let's not get carried away.

In the meantime I'm working the same amount of hours this week that I worked last week, and we have to get the house ready for the family we just visited to come to our house, and my birthday is on Sunday so I have to do things we friends.

July is just a busy month.

Crafting always improves my mood

Yesterday I read tons of articles on Etsy so I could find out how to promote and sell more items. The most helpful advice I found wasnt about Etsy or crafting. "Define your business model. figure out how much money you want to make for a given time (like a month or a year) and figure out how many items you would need to sell in order to reach that goal, assuming you sell everything."
I figured if I wanted to make 800 dollars a month I would have to make and sell 14 mittens a month, thats so unreasonable. Or I'd have to make and sell 160 bracelets each month. That is a little more do-able but still out of my reach.
So I've decided to expand my inventory. I'm going to sell mittens and bracelets, but many different kinds of bracelets. I'm also going to sell little notebooks, easy to make and fun at the same time. Handmade cards and stationary and painted glasses. If can at least make 200 or even 400 a month then I could keep my day ob and not worry when they cut my hours. But oh how wonderful it would be to be self employed.
Its rough but the number one advice that people kept saying for Etsy specifically is to keep crafting and keep adding. By adding new product all the time you stay up on the site and are more relevant for searches.
So last night and today I crafted my little heart out. 6 little notebooks finished and ready to take pictures and put on etsy. About 7 or 8 more that are not quite finished yet. I also made a pair of earrings but they're not finished yet either.
My friend is getting married on Saturday. I made her a beautiful scrapbook that she can fill in with her own pics once the wedding is done and over with. And I thought, hm wouldn't this be a great thing to sell on etsy. The only problem is that I'd have to know the colors of the wedding, unless i just made it black and white (which coincidentally were her colors)
Well off to craft and add some items on etsy. check it out on the side panel or just go to  Etsy.com/shop/hennyaccessory

Love,

Ah, the first post.. hopefully many more to follow

Welcome to my blog. I am a poor college student trying to make a living knitting. This is not an easy task. I'm trying to teach knittng, work in a yarn shop, and design knitwear.
However, this requires people that want to pay to learn to knit, a yarn shop willing to hire me and the ability to write knitting patterns.
Unfortunatly I dont have control over any of these except my ability to desgin a pattern but that also requires someone willing to pay me to do it...
I'm also trying to make a living by selling items on Etsy. I have wire wrapped and beaded memory wire bracelets, knitted bangles and mittens.
This blog will cover my successes and failures as I try to sell items on etsy, find a willing yarn shop in need of assistance or teachers and try to publish my desgins on knitting and hopefully in a book.
